Vader gets not one but TWO new homes

Vader, the terrier-shih tzu mix whose soulful eyes steal every heart, went home with the Blands on Thursday. vader-5He’s now got two homes—one in Franklin, TN and one in Paragould, AR. The Blands chose GOOD DOG RESCUE because their neighbor in Franklin has a GOOD DOG, Rimmey. Initially interested in Tina Turner, when the Blands spotted tiny Vader, it was all over but the shopping for new food, collar, leash and treats.

We LOVE Repeat Offenders

Suzanne Bonefas is a repeat offender (that’s what we call our repeat adoptive homes) with GOOD DOG RESCUE. She saw Flynn, the Welsh Pembroke Corgi, on our site and could not resist meeting him. flynn-2

Suzanne took Flynn home Thursday to meet Tippi and Lykie, her other two dogs. He fit right in as you can see in this picture with Tippi. GOOD DOGS are like potato chips and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, you cannot have JUST ONE!

Wink travels in style to her Indiana family

Wink, the little Spitz/Pomeranian mix puppy left this morning early, bound for her new home with the Ganzel’s in Cedar Lake, IN. Finding a transport almost proved to be the deal breaker, but miracle of miracles, a fellow rescue friend, Susan Hall was driving from Memphis to Chicago, along HWY 57, which is 20 minutes from where Lavonne Ganzel works. Wink arrived around 3 p.m. and got to go back to work with Lavonne.  When asked if she was happy, Lavonne responded with tears and laughter and a resounding YES!

The Ganzel’s have been looking for a second pet for quite some time. Their other dog is also a spitz mix and they love the breed. Lavonne had spent the day home in bed sick when foster mom Julie called with the amazing news that not only had a transport been found, but it was someone Good Dog Rescue knows and would be coming on Friday, the 27th. wink-1

No longer do the  miles separate Wink and the Ganzels. Doesn’t she have a great fur coat for the snowy Indiana winters?

It is “Sprinkle-ling” in Millington

Sprinkles, the little cairn terrier, caused quite a flurry (to understate it greatly) of applications to come into Good Dog Rescue. The double good news is that several families initially interested in her have chosen other GOOD DOGS. sprinkle-3

But the Hessmers of Millington are Sprinkles’s forever family. They have another Cairn terrier, Cookie, who has been wanting a sister to play with for some time now. Niki was so elated when I called to let her know her application had been chosen from among several great ones, that she exclaimed, “Oh, I have to call my husband right now. I feel like I have just had a new baby.”

Tina Turner is now a FISH

The Fish family daughters have been saving their money for a second dog for a long time. They visited Tina last week at our Hollywood – Union Ave. event and fell in love with the lovely Schnauzer/Shih Tzu mix. tina-turner-5 A home visit/meet and greet was set up for Thursday evening and the whole family, including Chance, the German Shepherd (also rescued) dog, fell for Tina’s great looks and wonderful personality. Tina will be wearing a Texas Longhorns t-shirt when she watches games with the Fishes. HOOK EM HORNS!

Mitzi is ‘Bama bound!

When Birmingham, AL residents  Mary Jane and Terry Marcus applied for Mitzi, Foster Mom, Julie, urged them to adopt local.  Mary Jane’s impassioned plea to Julie won her over, along with her excellent vet reference, and Yorkie experience (16 years).  Mary Jane made the drive to Memphis today, Sunday, to meet Mitzi, Sprinkles, Vader and Tina Turner, but it was Mitzi who won Mary Jane’s heart with her lovely blonde hair and bouncy spirit.      adopted-1bama-bound

Don’t you agree….these girls are a beautiful pair that are meant to be together for years to come?

Raining at Hollywood Adoption Event

Rain couldn’t keep many away from coming to Hollywood Feed on Union Avenue today to see all our Good Dogs. Several applications were taken and there was one Good Dog adopted ….if she gets along with the cats that are at her new home. The store was packed off and on throughout the day. Check out some of these cute faces ready for adoption.

Memphis’s best kept secret is OUT!

You’ll recall a blog a few days ago  featuring Trebek as Memphis’s best kept secret.  Well, the Sauer family–Ari, Hanielle and their precious twin girls–met Trebek at Petco and fell in love.  home-at-last1 There was one condition–Trebek had to get along with Belle, their chow/lab mix and Sparkle, the cherished family cat.  Trebek passed with flying colors….respecting the ‘leave it’ command when he got too friendly with Sparkle–who turned,  hissed and scared him….then enticing Belle to play a great game of tag in the sunny back yard.    All Ari could say was ‘man, can he run fast!’  Pictures are worth a 1000 words.  Look at these joyful faces!
