Our Recent Additions who need FURever homes for the holidays & beyond

We have added some fabulous dogs and puppies who need permanent homes as quickly as we can find them so we can rescue more from a certain deadly fate!

The 4 puppies (Cass, Sly, Sting, Twiggy) are adorable. Their mom (Aja) is too sweet. Senior border collie Leland is a wonderful leaner when petted. Chihuahua Peewee came from Mexico, we’re told, and is hoping to find a home in the USA.

Contact us if you might be able to give FURever homes to any of these loving dogs and puppies. If you can post a flyer for us, please download and print this one.

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month

We’ve got a lot of senior dogs who are looking for their forever homes. These dogs are typically the lowest maintenance (that puppy energy and puppy “challenges” are long gone).

If you’re looking for a pet who’s already housetrained, quiet, docile, and able to be alone while you or your family is out of the house at work or school, please consider one of our older pets. These mostly aged 6-9 year old pets make excellent companions, yet they are often overlooked by folks who are considering adopting. They ask so very little of their person, but give so very much of themselves when they realize they’ve got a great thing going (after a sometimes not so very good life).

Have a look at some of our adoptable senior dogs. Belle, Birdy, Dixie, Dusty, Ellie, Katie, Mandy, Poppa Smurf, Princess, Pudge, Sophie.

Please consider adopting one of them to be your forever friend. They will lavish you with love and thanks.

Our final fling for this year’s Downtown Farmer’s Market

Today started out chilly (so in many of the pics you’ll see cute sweaters and jackets on the dogs), but the sun was shining and the crowd was happy so we had a great time at this last adoption event for the 2009 Downtown Farmer’s Market.

We didn’t have any adoptions today – but the doggies had a lot of great exposure to people and some visiting dogs. We took a couple of videos, as Bixby made his first appearance at an adoption event! He found a really BIG friend to play with and then found one more his size in Madison.

We always enjoy the Downtown Farmer’s Market. We’re looking forward to more invitations in the 2010 year. Till then … enjoy some photos from today!

Miss Cordelia’s Welcomes Real Good Dog Rescue to Harbor Town – Thank you!!!

Real Good Dog Rescue sometimes has the opportunity to showcase our great dogs and puppies at various events in Memphis and Shelby County. Yesterday we were fortunate to be invited to Miss Cordelia’s in Harbor Town. Miss Cordelia’s has a reputation for friendliness and having high standards in all they do – so they were a logical fit with our rescue group! The weather was breezy, even though the temperature was warm and starting into the humid days of Memphis in the summer. But equipped with our trusty tent and plenty of shade and water, Real Good Dog Rescue had an inviting spot for visitors.

We had a lot of folks stopping by. Some wanted to pet, hold, and walk our great dogs. Some had dogs of their own and wanted them to make the acquaintance of our dogs. A couple of folks even decided to become adopters (or foster to adopt)! What a great day!

Adopted were two of our four puppies we refer to as the “Tipton Pups” because they came to us from Tipton County. We had 2 boys and 2 girls – now we have 1 boy and 1 girl left. We hope some of our readers have a penchant for puppies and will help out these 2 remaining youthful, healthy, and happy puppies. Placed in a foster to adopt situation was our friend Sarge. He went home with a family that had 2 young boys who can help Sarge get his well-deserved exercise. We hope they enjoy Sarge as much as our volunteers enjoy him and will decide to “fail fostering 101” with a whole lot of our volunteers!

Speaking of failing fostering 101, we had another of those events consummated yesterday. One of our volunteers who was fostering Erin decided to formally adopt her. Fabulous!

Enjoy the pics below. Clicking on any of them will take you to a larger version. Today, weather permitting, we are at the Memphis Jewish Community Center from 1-4pm for our 2nd adoption event of the weekend. If you missed us yesterday, come check us out today. If we are rained out today, Monday is the backup day.

Blue needs a new home – can you help?

Kathryn Cooley is trying to find a home for a great dog. Here’s Blue’s story:

My prior roommate left her dog at our house when moving out and I would like to find a good home for him.  He is a 1 year old Huskie mix with white fur, 1 blue and 1 green eye, medium build, and great personality.  I am willing to help out however I can to find him a home, as I am not able to have a dog long term.  He is neutered and has all of his shots up to date. Please let me know if you would be able to help or know of any services that will.  I know once people meet him they will want to adopt him!

Blue sounds like a great guy and his pics show him to be adorable!

If you can help Kathryn find Blue his forever home, please contact her at 317-408-1984 or kathryn.cooley@gmail.com.

Lovely and loving Lindsey is looking for her FURever home

Lindsey is a lovely black and white Border Collie mix who has waited a VERY long time to find her forever home. She has lived in a shelter’s outdoor kennel for close to a year. The shelter kept saying she was adopted, when she was merely lost in the shuffle of numerous outside dogs.

This approximately 3 year old young girl appears to have taken it all in stride. She is sweet natured and quiet, weighing 44 lbs. She is spayed, heartworm negative, and appears perfectly housetrained.

Lindsey is in a foster home with 5 other dogs and she fit in fine from the start. Attentive to her person, she is definitely NOT an alpha dog and gets along with young, old, alpha, and odd dogs and puppies in her foster home.

Tentative for her first couple of days, Lindsey is now enjoying running and playing with her foster siblings. She is great at mealtimes. She rarely barks. She is pretty much the perfect dog!

Check out Lindsey’s Glog here.

If you would like to adopt Lindsey, please contact Lisa at ltrenthem@gmail.com or 901-276-7751.
