Our Recent Additions who need FURever homes for the holidays & beyond

We have added some fabulous dogs and puppies who need permanent homes as quickly as we can find them so we can rescue more from a certain deadly fate!

The 4 puppies (Cass, Sly, Sting, Twiggy) are adorable. Their mom (Aja) is too sweet. Senior border collie Leland is a wonderful leaner when petted. Chihuahua Peewee came from Mexico, we’re told, and is hoping to find a home in the USA.

Contact us if you might be able to give FURever homes to any of these loving dogs and puppies. If you can post a flyer for us, please download and print this one.

Sophie is this week’s Dog Of The Week

Sophie is an 8+ year old Maltese, Bichon Frise Mix who we found down on her luck in a West Tennessee Animal Shelter. This grand lady asks for nothing other than a little love and caring in return for her gratefulness at being with her person.

Sophie is a special needs dog, in addition to being a senior dog. She has a heart murmur, for which she takes an inexpensive daily diuretic medication to prevent congestion. Just as with humans who take a “water pill,” this means that Sophie needs to go out more often for potty breaks.

Sophie may be slightly hard of hearing. She will stay quietly in her crate and asks for very little.

She really dances when you get the leash out, she wants to go for a walk. She has this slow ambling gait that would make her the perfect companion for someone else who wants to get out regularly for a stroll, but not be pulled along by a younger dog who’s trying to get somewhere quick!

Sophie has a few good years left, but she needs someone who can see her beauty and not focus on her aging deficits. You know, we’re ALL getting older … and better … even Sophie!

She gets along fine with other dogs in the household. Sophie would do well in a household with someone who is able to be home on a regular basis (think about “holding it” for more than 8 or 9 hours)!.

With November being “Adopt a Senior Pet month” we have reduced Sophie’s adoption fee to $75 for a qualified adopter. Could you be the one to open your heart and your home to our lovely and loving Sophie?

If you could be the one, please review Sophie’s bio and complete the adoption application.

Thanks for considering one of our senior “seasoned” dogs.

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month

We’ve got a lot of senior dogs who are looking for their forever homes. These dogs are typically the lowest maintenance (that puppy energy and puppy “challenges” are long gone).

If you’re looking for a pet who’s already housetrained, quiet, docile, and able to be alone while you or your family is out of the house at work or school, please consider one of our older pets. These mostly aged 6-9 year old pets make excellent companions, yet they are often overlooked by folks who are considering adopting. They ask so very little of their person, but give so very much of themselves when they realize they’ve got a great thing going (after a sometimes not so very good life).

Have a look at some of our adoptable senior dogs. Belle, Birdy, Dixie, Dusty, Ellie, Katie, Mandy, Poppa Smurf, Princess, Pudge, Sophie.

Please consider adopting one of them to be your forever friend. They will lavish you with love and thanks.

Tucker is our Dog of the Week

Tucker5

Tucker relaxes at an adoption event after "working the crowd"

Tucker is a great dog who doesn’t seem to make the best impression with strangers if he is insecure in his environment, like at adoption events!

He is fostered in a home with several other dogs. He tends to find a spot where he doesn’t get right in the middle of any chaos, unless Marley the chihuahua happens to be around.

Tucker and best buddy, Marley

Tucker loves Marley and they have a blast playing together. In fact, the smaller dogs seem to like Tucker, I think he feels that he is their size. He has been cat tested and failed however. Tucker seems uncomfortable with larger dogs; since he was rescued from the streets this is not so hard to understand.

He really is a sweetheart who is housetrained and does not chew up anything in the house. He is also pretty quiet. Tucker is fostered with Lisa.

Hollywood Feed on Poplar Adoptions!

What a beautiful day for the dogs of Good Dog Rescue…yes, I would say we had such a great day for adoptions. Set up out side to enjoy the day and many came to see our dogs. We had 4 adoptions and several additional applications.

Sunday at Poplar Plaza Petco

It was a small band of dedicated volunteers, with a small number of adoptable dogs and puppies, who attended Good Dog Rescue’s 2nd adoption event of the weekend. Several potential adopters stopped by to visit with us and the dogs. The dogs did their best to show themselves off! Here are some pics from yesterday. Video coming soon!

Adoptions at Hollywood Feed on Union!

What a great day for adoptions…we had 5 great families adopt from Good Dog Rescue today. Seemed like we were busy all day. Many came in to visit and obtain information or adopt. We still have lots of good dogs available to adopt.
